Getting off to a smooth start with lactation can be a challenge. It can also be tough to find adequate lactation support during your pregnancy and/or in the first few weeks following your birth. We offer individual consultation sessions, both in home and virtually, to help families reach their lactation goals.

Our initial visit includes an assessment of mother/parent and baby, observation of a nursing session and a follow up plan for continued success. We can also offer resources for other specialities as requested based on the assessments.

A Lactation Consultant can help you navigate some of the following challenges:

  1. Latch Difficulties: Ensuring the baby latches correctly to the breast/chest, which can help prevent pain and ensure effective milk transfer.

  2. Low Milk Supply: Providing guidance on increasing milk production through techniques like skin-to-skin contact, frequent feeding, and proper nutrition.

  3. Engorgement: Helping manage the discomfort and swelling that can occur when the breasts/chest are overfull with milk.

  4. Nipple Pain/Damage: Addressing issues such as cracked or sore nipples, often caused by an improper latch or other factors.

  5. Plugged Ducts: Advising on techniques to clear blocked milk ducts, which can cause pain and potentially lead to other concerns.

  6. Mastitis: Providing support for this painful inflammation of the breast tissue, which may require medical treatment.

  7. Breast/chestfeeding after a C-Section: Offering guidance on positioning and techniques that may be more comfortable for parents recovering from cesarean births.

  8. Infant Feeding Challenges: Supporting parents whose babies may have difficulties feeding due to issues such as tongue-tie, cleft lip/palate, or other medical conditions.

  9. Weaning: Helping parents navigate the process of transitioning from breast/chestfeeding to other forms of feeding as the child grows.

  10. Emotional Support: Providing reassurance and guidance for parents experiencing stress, anxiety, or other emotional challenges related to breast/chestfeeding.
